Patient Pandu Raju 23 year old patient was diagnosed to have end stage renal failure for the last 2 years and has been on dialysis since then. He comes from a low socio economic background in a village in Mahabubnagar district. His life was struggle for 2 years on dialysis, unable to afford routine medication and transport costs for dialysis. As a consequence he had problems with fluid in the lungs, High Blood pressure, and low hemoglobin
Breathlessness and unable to sleep well in the night. He was unable to do any work and had no
Livelihood and has nearly lost hope in his future. Kidney transplantation was discussed with the patient and family members. His mother venkatamma donated the Kidney. After counseling and discussions with family members and relevant investigations, we proceeded for transplantation.
Renal Transplant surgery was successful with team effort at Continental Hospitals, where we have a record of zero infection rates in the post surgical period. Patient had normal kidney functions after 2 days of transplant surgery and was discharged from hospital after a week. His hemoglobin has improved, not needing any Blood pressure medication, not any diet or fluid restrictions. He is much more energetic and looking forward to start a small business of his own. Transplantation has changed the life of this patient, has given hope for his future and we at Continental Hospitals are glad that we could make this possible for him. As we all know transplantation is the best cure for renal disease and we hope that his story should motivate and inspire people to donate kidneys for loved ones and if done by experienced doctors and experienced team, no major problems should be encountered.
Dr. Kavitha Nephrologists said A successful kidney transplant is an effective treatment for kidney failure than dialysis. A kidney transplant can deliver the best quality of life to people with end-stage renal failure (ESRF).The most obvious advantage of transplant to people with kidney failure is freedom from dialysis. If a transplant works well, dialysis becomes a thing of the past. There are also no particular fluid or dietary restrictions after a transplant. Other benefits of transplantation are Control of Blood pressure, improvement in heart function and Erythropoietin injections can be stopped.
Most people who have a transplant feel better and have more energy than they did on dialysis. They are more able to cope with a job and many find their lives improve. Before the renal transplant of the patient, it is necessary to find an appropriate kidney donor. Donors generally should be within family members as it is better matched; healthy kidney will function better and have a longer life.
