Gangtok: Sikkim, which is known for its rich biodiversity, has added another appeal to its tourist attractions with online gaming and virtual horse racing.
Sikkim enjoys a booming tourism sector with visitors from all over the country who come to enjoy its rich biodiversity and pleasant weather.
Adding another appeal to its list of attractions, it has now started promoting online gaming and virtual horse racing.
The sector has in fact expanded, with a new venue in Gangtok being built by Golden Gaming International, the first company to start legal online sports betting in Sikkim. Its betting palette will now include cricket, tennis and football wagers too, as well as uncommon games like roulette.
“The online betting centre in Sikkim will definitely generate more employment opportunities if the government supports it. So far, 120 people have been employed and are working there. We are appointing more unemployed youths and locals, which will provide more people employment opportunities,” said Majoj Sethi , MD, Golden Gaming International.
A total of four gaming centres are operating in Sikkim. The new players, who that have forayed into this sector include Sugal & Damani Group, Future Gaming Group and Essel Group’s Playwin brand.
Online lottery was launched in the state in 2001, which is now a thriving business apart from the traditional form of lottery.
The state government has also allowed casinos in two hotels.
“Sikkim is already a popular tourist destination and the launch of online gaming will boost tourism even more and increase the state’s fame. Online sports will bring in many benefits in the tourism sector,” said Pranab Anand Sukba, a tourist.
