Union Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh said the air connectivity for two-tier cities, including to Visakhapatnam would be improved in future. Addressing the gathering at a convention on ‘International Connectivity and Tourism’ being organised by Air Travellers Association (ATA ),Civil Aviation, he said tourism and hospitality sector had great impending for employment generation. He said Visakhapatnam city was developing very fast and International air connectivity was very essential for future growth. He assured to sanction more international fights from Visakhapatnam to various destinations in future. He said the aviation industry was passing through a difficult period at present.
But he expressed the hope that the industry would recover soon. He said civil aviation industry was capital demanding industry at all times and therefore such cyclic changes were bound to happen. He said 15 international flights would be introduced in the coming months in the country. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy urged the Union Minister to sanction more international flights from Visakhpatnam as the city was developing vary fast. Regarding the night landing facilities at the airport here, the Chief Minister said the airport was under the control of the Defence Ministry and it require permisison from the Centre and the Defence Ministry. He said if the facility is not available, the state government will think about the construction of another airport in the district. UNI
