India Cements Limited have launched the first of its kind T-20 cricket tournament for city schools to unearth talent and develop their skills, in the Under 16 age group.
The tournament will be played as Junior Super Kings and supported by Tamil Nadu Cricket Association(TNCA) from September 5 with the final on Sept 29 with a field of as many as 32 school teams by invitation on ‘merit’, TNCA Secretary Kasi Viswanathan annoucned at a press conference today. The matches will be held on knock out basis. Eighteen teams winning the first round will play the quarter finals. The semi finals will be held on September 28.
Prominent school teams like Don Bosco, Padma Seshadri and DAV will be fielding two teams each.
Mr Viswanathan said ‘times have changed and the youngsters are excelling both in academics and sports now. The India Cements decided to introduce this tournament to provide them a chance to show case their cricketing talents, ‘ The tournament is also sponsored by leading English daily “The Hindu” and Gulf Oil.
