Hyderabad, May 14 (Siasat News): Three Unidentified Youths riding bike fired at Police Picket Volga Hotel Shahalibanda, in Old City of Hyderabad in which one police constable of Hussaini Alam Police Station U. Ramesh died he belongs to Cuddapa District, two other policemen were injured.
The constables, it was said, retaliated by opening fire, but the assailants escaped away. The deceased constable sustained two bullet injuries.
The assailants, initial reports said, wore masks and used a short fire arm, possibly a pistol or a revolver and sped away after they shot the policemen.
Police in the State capital went on a state of high alert after the firing incident. Police sources suspect that the attack could be the handiwork of fundamentalists.
Following intelligence reports indicating a possible terror strike, Hyderabad City police had taken up massive checking operations last week. The terror alert was subsequently withdrawn after the arrest of a suspected Lashkar activist Zia ul Haq who was working as a cab driver.
The attack comes in the backdrop of the fast approaching third anniversary of the bomb blast in Makkah Masjid.
Recent revelations that a right wing fundamentalist organisation could be involved in the Makkah Masjid blast had led to some tension in the old city, as police had suspected fundamentalist groups to be behind the attack and had arrested several people.
After this incident police declared High Alert in an around Hyderabad.
