Firing case: High Court issues notice to Narayan Rane

Mumbai, October 26: The Bombay High Court today issued a notice to Maharashtra revenue minister Narayan Rane and sought replies from police on the reasons for not making him party in the case related to firing on a NGO worker last month.

Shamim alias Chintu Shaikh, who had accused Nitesh Rane, head of Swabhiman Sanghatana, of shooting him on September 23, moved the High Court seeking a CBI probe.

The investigation by local Khar police is not making any progress due to Rane’s political clout, Shaikh alleged.

The petition alleged that while Shaikh, who admitted himself to Hiranandani Hospital after the incident, could not get the report of doctors, but Narayan Rane could obtain it.

Rane produced the report – which said that Shaikh had not suffered a bullet injury – at a press conference.
