Fire norms for public utility buildings

Hyderabad, February 03: In the light of fire the accident that took place at the Park Super Specialty Hospital, the State Government is contemplating to make it mandatory for all public congregation buildings to instal fire safety equipment, irrespective of their height.

The buildings of public congregation include educational institutions, shopping malls, theatres, hospitals, multiplexes and function halls.

Speaking to Expresso, GHMC officials said that the State Government would appoint a committee with members from the Corporation, Fire Services Department, Central Power Distribution Company (CPDCL), Police, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) and Osmania University besides fire experts to ensure that the safety measures are followed.

The committee will study the issue and prepare modalities for strict enforcement of norms. The same would be submitted to the State Government for necessary action.

The process is likely to take a minimum of two months.
