New Delhi: A fire broke out on Sunday at a multi-storeyed shopping-cum-office complex near a Delhi Metro station, officials said adding that no one was injured in the blaze.
Fire service officials said the blaze broke out in the afternoon and more than two dozen fire tenders were deployed to put out the flames. The building in west Delhi houses various offices as well as shopping units.
The building, Pearls Business Park, is close to the usually crowded Netaji Subhash Place Metro station near Wazirpur bus depot.
“We got information about the fire around 4.20 p.m. The fire engulfed the eighth floor of the building. No one was injured because the offices (in the building) were closed for the weekend,” a fire department official told IANS.
The official said fire fighters managed to put out the blaze by 7.40 p.m.
“The cause of the fire is being ascertained. Prime facie, it seems an electrical short-circuit was the reason,” he said.
The area has several multi-storeyed shopping complexes and is crowded with shoppers — both on weekdays and weekends. It is also home to several banks and corporate offices.
