A massive fire swept through a scrap yard and spread to a slum cluster in Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh on Monday, leaving hundreds of dwellers homeless.
There was no loss of life reported from the fire so far.
An eyewitness, Shamshudin, said the deadly fire spread like a wild inferno and the cause of the fire is yet unknown.
“We do not the reason behind this incident. It is a scrap yard,” he said.
Wisps of smoke rose from the slum as the dwellers rummaged through the ashes, trying to salvage their possessions.
Dozens of fire tenders had rushed to the spot to douse the inferno.
Onset of summer results in frequent incidents of fire across India where fire safety regulations are lax, rarely implemented and not periodically reviewed, causing the loss of life and material. (ANI)
