Hyderabad, April 06: A fire engulfed a penthouse in the multi-storeyed Srinivasa Towers in front of the Chief Minister’s camp office in Begumpet on Tuesday evening. No one was injured. Staff of the Chief Minister’s camp office noticed thick smoke emanating from the building around 6.50 p.m. and alerted the fire control room.
A hydraulic platform truck along two fire tenders was rushed to the spot to douse the flames. District Fire Officer P. Deendayal said necessary steps were taken to prevent the flames from spreading to other areas.
Power disconnected
Power supply was also disconnected as a precautionary measure, he said.
“With the help of hydraulic platform truck, we entered the penthouse, broke open the windowpanes and carried out fire-fighting operation,” he said.
A computer, sofa and interiors were damaged.
Short-circuit
“Electrical short-circuit could be the reason for the fire,” he said, adding that the staff of Hotel Kakatiya Sheraton was staying in the penthouse.
In a separate incident, property worth lakhs of rupees was gutted after fire broke out in a shed at HUDA Colony in Asifnagar in the early hours of Tuesday.w
Furniture and other wooden material which was stored in the shed were reduced to ashes. Cause of fire was yet to be ascertained, Langer Houz Fire Officer, V. Bhanu Pratap, said.
In yet another incident, makeshift huts erected for a film shooting were destroyed in a fire accident near MCR HRD Institute in Jubilee Hills on Tuesday. Two fire tenders extinguished the flames within an hour.
