Amritsar, May 15:A major tragedy was averted here today when the under-construction portion of a cinema hall was gutted in a fire.
The fire, suspected to be the result of short circuit, broke out when the movie ‘Ragini’ was being screened in one of the three cinema halls.
However, a tragedy was averted as the show was stopped and the hall vacated quickly when the fire was in its initial stage, police said.
There was no causality in the incident, they added.
According to police, there are three cinema halls (Suraj, Chanda and Tara) housed in one building. The three cinema halls were being put together for Big Cinema which was under construction in the same building and the inauguration was due next week.
The flames gutted one part of the Big cinema.
Officials working in the Big Cinema alleged the fire engines arrived two hours late.
Police said there was no fire safety measure in working condition in the under-construction portion of the Big Cinema building.
