Pune: Two youths have turned up at Deccan Gymkhana Police station in Pune and filed a complaint against Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mewani and JNU student Umar Khalid for the violence that broke out on Monday in Pune.
The youths named Bikkad Akshay Gautamrao and Anand Dhond in their complaint against Jignesh stated that it was Jignesh who asked the ‘people to come on street and retaliate’ which lead to the violence between communities.
According to the complaint, the two leader’s provocative remarks led to the violence that broke out on Monday where 50 vehicles were torched to fire after Maratha’s clashed with Dalits who were returning from Bhima Koregaon in Pune.
The Dalits were on their way back from an annual event commemorating the battle anniversary of British army which had Dalits against the Peshwas.
Ruling Party BJP has blamed Jignesh Mewani and Khalid’s speeches as provocative which led to the violence while Dalit organizations have claimed that the Hindutva outfits like Hindu Ekta Aghadi and Shivraj Pratishthan headed by Milind Ekbote and Sambhaji Bhide were behind the violence, reported ET.
