FIR against Delhi Univ student, for allegedly assaulting teacher

New Delhi: An FIR has been filed against a student of Delhi University’s Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) for allegedly beating up his teacher in the college’s parking lot on Friday.

Pardeep Phogat is currently pursuing a Post Graduate Diploma in Global Business Operations (GBO), assaulted professor Ashwani Kumar for giving him a zero in his internal assessment.
A group of teachers gathered at the North Delhi’s Maurice Nagar police station to file a report against him.

An FIR under IPC sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341(wrongful restraint) and 506 (criminal intimidation) has been lodged against Phogat, the Quint reports.

According to college authorities, Phogat has been notorious for never attending his classes. “Last semester, he had failed in all his exams, and this semester he didn’t even sit for the examinations. What can a teacher do? He probably thought he could threaten teachers and have his way, but things don’t work that way. He had earlier also called and threatened Ashwani Kumar on the phone regarding the same,” RP Rustagi, the college principal said.

Phogat also claims that he is a member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), while the organization has denied any association with him.

Phogat, on the other hand, maintains that he wasn’t left with any “option” but to hit the teacher. “My attendance was normal, but he stopped my admit card this year. I was simply speaking to Ashwani Sir on Friday, pleading with him to not ruin my future. But he said main tujhe pass nahi hone dunga. Phir maine unhe dhakka de diya, teen thapad maare aur pet me ek laath maari. He left me with no other option,” the report quoted Phogat as saying.
