FIR against NBCC, others in chimney crash

Lucknow, May 26: The Jhansi police on Tuesday registered FIR against National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC) and two others in connection with the collapse of 220 meters high Paricha Thermal Power Plant chimney. The Additional Director General (Law and Order) Brijlal said that other accused in the case were Deputy general manager of VJMC SK Chopra and M/s Vishwakarma Company.

The executive engineer Paricha Thermal Power Ganesh Prasad lodged FIR against the NBCC and others. The NBCC had been accused of being careless in the construction.

Brijlal said while the operation to remove debris was still going on, the two labourers – Mewal Lal,40, and Shyam Sunder, 20, working on the site, were missing. Brijlal said there was so far no recovery of dead body from the site.

Brijlal said family members of these two labourers told the police that they did not return home on Monday night. According to information the district administration had sought the services of Army for the removal of rubble.

The debris removal had become quite difficult. On Tuesday the army withdrew itself from the rescue operation.

However the district magistrate Rajeswar said that the army had not been removed from the site and its services were being utilized. He said JCB machines had been deployed to clear the area.

Most of the labourers deployed in the construction were from Bihar and Maharashtra.
