FIR against Congress Nirupam for calling PM Modi “modern-day Aurangzeb”

NEW DELHI: A complaint has been filed against Congress’ Sanjay Nirupam for calling Prime Minister the modern-day avatar of Aurangzeb.

The complaint was filed by a Muslim body at Ghatkopar police station said:

“Nirupam’s statement has hurt millions of people who hold Aurangzeb in esteem. Unlike Modi, Aurangzeb was not a jumlebaaz and laffaz (boaster and one who doesn’t keep promises). Aurangzeb cannot be compared with Modi. I have requested the police to file an FIR against Nirupam for hurting people’s sentiments,” said Dr A R Anjaria, anti-terrorism crusader and Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi candidate from Mumbai North Central in his complaint, reported Times Of India.

Nirupam, the Congress’s former president and the party’s Lok Sabha candidate from Mumbai North West while campaigning for the party’s candidate Ajay Rai, in Varanasi said, “I feel that the people of this constituency have chosen such a person (PM Narendra Modi) who is a modern-day avatar of Aurangzeb. In the name of corridors, hundreds of temples have been demolished in Varanasi under the instruction of Prime Minister Modi.” Nirupam said at a rally in Varanasi.

Aurangzeb is a 17th-century Mughal emperor.

He added, “What Aurangzeb could not do, Prime Minister Modi had done.”

“I strongly criticize this modern avatar of Aurangzeb,” he said.
