Chandigarh, January 20: The main opposition Congress today described the report of the Finance Committee, set up by the Parkash Singh Badal government in Punjab, as “a farce and an exercise in futility”.
The Committee on financial reforms had ignored hard facts of financial management, state Congress chief Mohinder Singh Kaypee said.
Its proposals fell short of addressing financial problems of the state, he said in a release here.
The report was “a farce and an exercise in futility”, Kaypee said.
Instead of facing hard facts of financial management, the Committee’s proposals were intended to extract as much as possible from the crumbling industry by increasing the VAT and imposition of entry tax, the release said.
The Committee’s proposals to increase bus fares and reduce tax on private transport companies would benefit only the Badal family, alleged Kaypee.
