In letters dashed to Chief Ministers K Chandrasekhar Rao and N. Chandrababu Naidu, Telangana State BJP chief Dr K Laxman urged them to conduct offline spot counseling for filling the convener quota seats, lest those who got good ranks in entrance examination will be put to irreparable loss as the seats remain unfilled which will hamper the work in major government hospitals.
Dr Laxman pointed out that for filling Medical PG seats for the academic year 2016-17, a common entrance examination was conducted by Dr NTR University of Health Sciences in February this year for both the Telugu States and by that time the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences at Warangal did not begin. He stated this year the exercise for filling the seats was being conducted through web-counselling for both the States separately.
“It is further gathered that the first phase of web-counseling was done during the fourth week of April, but complaints are pouring in that the software used for web-counseling was not properly designed and consequently seats in many branches have not been filled in spite of students opting for them in the counseling. It is gathered that second counseling is due sometime during the middle of this month and going by the previous experience, the students aspiring to take the departments of their choice are skeptical that they may not be able to get the seat in the desired branch and in the college of their choice”, he said.
“This is likely to happen due to improper designing of the web-counseling software. This being one reason for the seats going unfilled, as the open combined counseling is done away with, there is going to the dual allotments and when the students opts for one seat, the other seat is going to lie vacant, if the same method is continued till last counseling.
“Under the circumstances, those who got merit rank in entrance examination are likely to lose their chance and there is every likelihood of the unfilled seats automatically going to management quota depriving merit students of their valuable chance. As there is an element of urgency in the matter, Laxman requested the two Chief Ministers to take an early decision before the second counseling commences” he pleaded. (NSS)
