The process of filing nominations for the forthcoming GHMC elections began on Tuesday and the officials concerned have prepared final list of voters and are getting ready for the big event.
Polling will be conducted for 150 wards under GHMC limits on February 2. Nominations will be accepted till January 17 by 3 pm and scrutiny will be done the next day. The candidates can withdraw their nominations on January 21. Results will be announced on February 5 followed by counting of the votes polled for various parties, including the ruling TRS, Congress, TDP-BJP combine, MIM and others.
In addition to 25 IAS officials appointed as observers of the election process, the Election Commission has also appointed 20 more officials to look into the election expenditure by the contestants and political parties. As per the fresh list prepared by the GHMC officials, there are a total of 74,36,247 voters in corporation limits. While 3,83,530 voters were newly enrolled, 15,217 names were removed from the list of the voters. Also changes of names for 41,011 voters were made, according to information. (NSS)
