Mumbai: Senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar today demanded that a complaint be filed against police officials for beating up farmer Rameshwar Bhusare who had come to meet chief minister Devendra Fadnavis.
“We want Marine Drive police to file a complaint against the police officials on duty in Mantralaya for severely beating up Bhusare,” said Pawar.
Bhusare had claimed to have incurred losses to the tune of Rs 10 lakh during hailstorm in 2015 but was refused any compensation from the authorities. He had come to meet Fadnavis in Mantralaya yesterday where he was allegedly beaten up by policemen on duty.
Bhusare was later taken to Marine Drive police station and was booked under the charge of attempt to commit suicide.
CM Fadnavis has meanwhile dismissed as “false” the allegations that Bhusare was beaten up by police.
Pawar also accused officials of Marine Drive police station of misleading him when he had gone to the police station to enquire about Bhusare.
After learning about the incident, Opposition leaders including Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil (Congress), Ajit Pawar (NCP), leader of opposition in the upper house Dhananjay Munde along with party workers had gone to meet the farmer, who was beaten up by the police.
As the leaders demanded to meet the farmer personally, they were told that he had been taken to a local court.
However, when Pawar contacted the farmer on his mobile phone it was revealed that Bhusare was actually locked up in a room in the same police station.
