Union Minister for Labour and Employment Mallikharjuna Kharge has called upon the dalits to fight unitedly for achieving reservations in promotions in government jobs. Addressing a public meeting after inaugurating the Balayogi Ghat and stadium constructed at a cost of Rs 1.10 crore in memory of former Lok Sabha Speaker late GMC Balayogi at Amalapuram today, he said dalits should wage a relentless fight till reservations in promotions at 15 per cent for dalits and 7.5 per cent for Scheduled Tribes was implemented in Toto.
“Of the total 260 public sector undertakings and institutions in the country, majority of the top posts were occupied by upper castes people, yet their functioning has not improved. There is no dearth of talent among dalits and they should be given their right and opportunity to occupy the top posts,” he said.
The status of dalits could be improved only when they had the qualitative education and to achieve it they require people’s support, money support and mental strength. Hence all the dalits should come forward to strive for achieving these reservations, he added. UNI
