Hyderabad, August 10: Cynicism appears to be creeping up in the society in fighting corruption and the silence of the civil society is very alarming, Central Vigilance Commissioner Pratyush Sinha said today.
The society will ultimately crumble, if the tendency of permissiveness to corruption continues, he said, speaking at the sixth anniversary celebrations of the city-based Vigilance Study Circle (VSC) here.
He lamented that there is visible failure on the part of the government and the society in punishing the real culprits.
The long drawn judicial process has also failed to act as a deterrent for the wrong doers. In this scenario, those working in the vigilance and judiciary have an important role to play in eradicating corruption by educating the society and suggesting improvements in the system to plug the loopholes, a release issued by the Study Circle quoted Sinha as saying.
Transparency in public dealings, accountability of government servants and responsibility of actions should be clearly defined and the rules must be simplified, to prevent the occurrence of misconduct or crime, he stressed.
