London : Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand believes that manager Louis van Gaal can save himself from being sacked if he manages to lead his side to the FA Cup glory and to the top four Premier League finish.
The Dutchman’s job has been under scrutiny following his side’s inconsistent performances in the Premier League and after the early exit from the Champions League.
Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is being widely considered as the potential candidate to replace van Gaal at Old Trafford.
United are currently standing fifth in the points table and are still five points short of the fourth-ranked Arsenal with four matches to go.
They, however, made their place in the finals of the FA Cup after hammering Everton 2-1 at the Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
Reflecting on the same, Ferdinand said that he watched United’s game against Everton, adding that the Dutchman has a great chance to earn his right to stay if they continue to perform like that, the Daily Express reported.
Ferdinand, however, said that United are not playing the type of football they are accustomed to seeing at Old Trafford.
United will play against Crystal Palace at home on Thursday for the FA Cup title. (ANI)
