Taiwan, December 15: Taiwin’s military apologised today after revealing photos of female soldiers were circulated on the internet, five months after a group of male troops were punished over a sex video.
“We wish to express our sincere apologies… for the internal management problems,” Liu Chih-chian, a spokesman of the Combined Logistics Command, said.
Taiwanese TV and newspapers ran photos of a sergeant, identified only by her surname Chen, lifting her uniform to show her bra, apparently while at her barracks.
The photos, originally posted on Chen’s blog, also showed her and two female colleagues sticking out their middle fingers in a rude gesture, as well as two other military women preparing to French kiss.
The case could lead to Chen’s dismissal as she has violated military regulations, the Command said.
The photos were the latest in a series of scandals to hit the island’s military, and stoked heated criticism from both the ruling and opposition parties.
“The military is sick and its morals are loose and corrupted. The soldiers are behaving like pole dancers,” said opposition lawmaker Tsai Huang-liang.
Seventeen servicemen were punished in July over a video involving two male sergeants engaged in homosexual acts while on duty, in an incident that sparked public outrage.
