Female internet users in India are only 29%: UNICEF

New Delhi: The UNICEF recently released a report titled ‘State of the World’s Children 2017: Children in a digital world’ which revealed that only 29% of females in India are internet users. This points to a “digital gender gap” in India.

The centre in partnership with UNICEF is developing a comprehensive plan on digital safety of children.

The report says that girls in rural India face restrictions in the usage of Information and Communications Technology (ICT). The main reason for their discrimination is gender based.

The study also reveals that “Globally, 12 per cent more men than women used the Internet in 2017. In India, less than one third of Internet users are females.”
