Federal inquiry into copter crash that killed YSR

Hyderabad, September 08: With more and more questions being raised about the helicopter crash that killed state chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and four others, the Andhra Pradesh government has decided to hand over the probe to the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI).

Announcing the decision, the state Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy said that the new man at the helm of the government, K. Rosaiah, took the decision after a high-level review meeting.

“Mr Rosaiah spoke to the Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram this morning and requested him to order a CBI probe into the incident. The home minister readily agreed and conveyed the decision to the chief minister,” she said.

The decision comes even as the Crime Branch of the state police along with explosives and forensic experts are looking into all possible angles including sabotage.

Stating that Crime Branch probe will also continue simultaneously for the time being, Sabita said that the government had also decided to appoint a two-member expert committee to probe the crash.
