Head of the Kodippadi madrasa is said to have issued a ‘fatwa’ that girls should not participate in dance programmes in schools.
According to Abubakar Madani, head of the madrasa, “Quran prohibits girls from dancing on stage and the Quran & Hadees prohibit boys watch girls dancing. Therefore, school girls should not take part in dancing programmes.”
One of the teachers at the government school said, “according to this decree, even girls in the first standard are not permitted to take part in cultural events. Boys will not be able to play cricket or football.”
There are 61 Muslim students in this government school with a strength of 168 students. Muslim students are said to have abstained from participating in Prathibha Puraskar” on January 27, conducted in the school.Courtest: Karnataka Muslims.
