Father, son die in two road mishaps

Ahmedabad, July 09: In two separate incidents, two members of a family lost their lives over a period of three days. A diamond businessman undergoing treatment at Ashutosh Hospital in Sagrampura, died mysteriously on Monday, just before surgery.

On Wednesday, the deceased’s father, who had rushed to Surat upon hearing about his son’s death, met with an accident near Palitana and died on the spot.

According to details of the case, Vijay Sanghvi (46), a resident of Krishnanagar Society in Adajan, met with an accident when his bike skidded off the road on the Nehru Bridge on June 22.

He was immediately rushed to the nearby Bhargav Hospital in Adajan, where it was found that he had sustained multiple fractures on his left leg. He was later shifted to Ashutosh Hospital at Sagrampura on July 2. On Monday morning, he was taken to the operation theatre for surgery, where he died.

The family members of the deceased have alleged that Vijay died due to the carelessness of the doctors, as he had only fractured his leg. They say he died due to an overdose of anaesthesia.

Several relatives of the deceased gathered in the hospital and tried to manhandle the staffers. The hospital authorities alerted the Athwalines police, who immediately rushed to the scene and controlled the situation.

As demanded by the family of the deceased, the body was later sent to the New Civil Hospital for postmortem to find out the exact cause of death.

On being informed about his son’s death, Kritipal Sanghvi (70) rushed to Surat in his car with his relative, Sevanti Sanghvi (65), on Wednesday afternoon. The car met with an accident at Songadh village near Palitana and Kritpal and Sevanti died on the spot. The driver sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital.

Inspector M S Shaikh of Athwalines police said: “We are waiting for the report from New Civil hospital to find out the cause of death. If any human error is responsible for it, we will definitely take strict action.”
