KANPUR: A man kept his mentally ill son chained for 20 years, in Rajnagar village in UP’s Mainpuri district. He could not afford his treatment vastly inadequate to support the family.
Satish Chandra Jatav, who works as a labourer chained his son Manoj who is now 30year-old. Since 1996 Manoj has the health issues.
Drained financially and emotionally, Satish had no choice but to keep his son in chains. He said he had tried many things in order to treat his son.
He sought help from village quacks and ‘ojhas’ (sorcerers) but was later forced to keep him chained as he became more aggressive.
Manoj was freed on Thursday by district authorities and admitted to a hospital where he is undergoing treatment.
