On Saturday, while the world was in celebration on the eve of International Father’s Day, a man was arrested for molesting and raping his daughter.
The suspect, Mahadevaiah Shetty, 44, resident of Govinda shetty palya in Electronics City was identified by the Parappana Agrahara police.
According to Police, Shetty had been assaulting his 18-year-old daughter physically, a garment factory worker, for the last five months.
He had even raped her thrice during the last three months. The victim suffered the pain without a sound as her father threatened to kill her if she revealed the matter to anyone.
The police have booked him under IPC Sections 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt).
As per Police, on Saturday, Shetty’s behaviour with his daughter had been intolerable after she returned home from work.
Shetty was fully drunk, tried to drag and cuddle her in front of his wife and son. Unable to bear this, the girl ran away from the house. But he ran after her down near a bus shelter. He tried to molest her in full public view, police said.
But, she was rescued by local residents who beat Shetty bruised and by members of women’s organisations.
He was later handed over to the police. She filed a complaint to the police at 11 pm on Saturday and narrated to them her five-month torment.
The victim’s brother and mother were shocked and did not know how to react after she told them about how her father subjected her to repeated sexual exploitation.
On Sunday, Shetty and his daughter were sent for medical examination to the Victoria Hospital. The medical examination reports provide evidence to the sexual abuse.
When drop a line to DCP (South East Division) T D Pawar, he said the police had recorded the victim’s statement. “She is under medical care and her condition is stable. She might be provided counselling as she is under shock, Pawar said.
