Father of bride in Kota district gives neem plant to groom as dowry

Kota: In virtually every corner of the globe is observing the evil practice of dowry. But in the Dhakarkheri, village in Kota district, the bride’s father has given just a neem plant in the form of dowry.

This rare act has become a talk of the town. Sources said that bride’s father told the groom Laxman and his family the resident of Ladpur village in Bhilwara district, that he did not have anything to give them except for his daughter and a neem plant.

The groom’s family members were very happy with the gesture. The bride Shakuntla Kabra has studied till class 9th she said that. “I help people of the village in filling their forms of various government schemes. Dowry is a social malice and I am against such practice. I am very proud of my father that he has given me a plant as dowry. This gesture has sent a message in the society, where women are subjected to harassment due to demand of dowry.”

She further added that the groom’s father is working as a labourer in a farm house. “A total of 70 baratis had come to attend the wedding on a truck. My father had already informed my husband’s family that he did not have anything to give as dowry except for a neem plant.” She said.
