Jaipur, August 05: Angered by his father’s regular violent fights with his mother, 21-year old Satyendra Singh allegedly beat his father, Vishwa Singh (45), to
death with an iron pipe at Shyam enclave in Panchawala under Karni Vihar police station area early on Tuesday morning.
The son, who is unemployed, has been arrested.
The deceased, who was repeatedly hit on the head at least 50 times, died on the spot. He was a government employee with the agriculture department and had violently quarreled with his wife on Monday night. The police claimed Vishwa was drunk and had slapped her. This apparently enraged his son.
According to the police, Vishwa Singh had been demanding dowry from his wife, Kesar Kanwar. This had soured their relationss for the past 5-6 years.
“In 2003, her wife had lodged a case under Section 498 of IPC against her hunsband. For some years, they lived separated, but after intevention by relatives, the family reunited a few months ago. They were living in Panchawala,” said CO (Jhotwara) Richhpal Singh.
“Fighting between them was a regular feature and Vishwa Singh used to beat his wife. Satyendra and his sister were also living with the couple and often used to intervene to stop the fighting,” the CO added.
Vishwa Singh had come home at around 7 pm on Monday. “He was having some problems at his office. As soon as he entered the home, he started screaming at his wife. He, then, threw things out of the house which had been given to his wife at the time of their marriage as dowry. He kept saying that his in-laws had not given him enough dowry,” said Singh claimed.
They fought till 1 am on Tuesday. Satyendra, who was also in the house, allegedly got violent, when his father slapped Kesar Kanwar. Police said that he found an iron pipe and started hitting Vishwa. His mother tried to stop him, but he kept hitting his father.
Kesar Kanwar called the police and Satyendra was arrested under Section 302 of IPC. A post-mortem has been conducted and the body has been handed over to the relatives.
