Kabul, September 07: A rocket attack in Afghanistan’s capital Kabul has claimed three more civilian lives, as violence continues to take its toll in the strife-ridden country.
The latest fatalities came as a rocket hit a residential area in Kabul, killing three civilians, including a child. Two other people were also wounded in the incident.
Police say the rockets were fired from Paghman, a mountain resort in the western outskirts of Kabul.
No person or group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
Attacks across Afghanistan have escalated in the past months, since US Marines and British soldiers launched all-out offensives on Taliban hotspots in the South and East.
In response, the Taliban is adopting more sophisticated tactics, such as using roadside bombs combined with ambushes by small teams of heavily armed militants, in its fight for power.
The recent civilian casualties follow a NATO bombing in the northern sector of the country on Friday, which left some 125 people dead and scores of others injured, mostly civilians.
Afghan civilians have been the main victims of violence in the country, particularly in the troubled southern and eastern provinces.
According to a UN report, more than 1,000 Afghan civilians have been killed either in US-led air strikes or in the Taliban-led insurgency across the violence-wracked country in the first half of the current year.
