Fatal Margin to be released today at Landmark bookstore, Begumpet at 6 PM

Fatal Margin – a novel based in the setting of a cancer hospital is being released at 6 pm on Friday, the 12th of December by ex-cricketer Mr V V S Laxman at a launch function at Landmark bookstore, Begumpet, Hyderabad. The book authored by Hyderabad based cancer surgeon Dr. Umanath Nayak, consultant at Apollo hospitals, and published by Hachette India is the story of a dynamic and talented cancer surgeon who reaches the pinnacles of his career, but whose greed and ambitions make him succumb to the temptations of his lucrative profession and ultimately results in his downfall. The book, described as a medical thriller and a work of fiction meant to entertain, also addresses important issues related to medical ethics and the practice of modern super-specialty medicine.

How even the best of doctors can yield to peer pressure and bruised egos, become a prey to unscrupulous agents and practice unethical medicine. The corporatization of medicine, the ‘un-holy’ nexus that exist between doctors and pharma companies and the repercussions of the use of high-tech gadgetry in modern medicine are some of the many issues, which the book brings up.

The launch function will be followed by a panel discussion on Modern Medical Ethics with audience interaction. Noted city personalities such as andrologist Dr. Sudhakar Krishnamurthy, oncoplastic and breast surgeon Dr. Raghu
Ram, director of Hyderabad literary festival Mr. Vijay Kumar and Apollo urologist Dr. Rajagopal will be participating in the deliberations.
