Hyderabad: It was observed that certain bacteria are found on currency notes which might cause infections of air tract, skin, blood, TB etc.
These are the findings of a research conducted in and around the National Capital Region of Delhi. It was found that bacteria were stuck to currency notes in some cases. These are the bacteria which are normally found in hospital wastes.
Office bearers of Confederation of All India Traders wrote a letter to Finance Minister, Mr. Arun Jaitley. The copy of this letter was also sent to Minister of Science and Technology, Mr. Harsh Vardhan and Minister of Health, Mr. J. P. Nadda but nobody paid heed to it.
Secretary-General of the Federation, Mr. Praveen Khandelwal told that such reports are usually published in scientific journals but no one takes care of them. He further told that businessmen touch the currency notes in large numbers every day and hence they are prone to catch such diseases.
He requested the Govt., Medical Council of India and Indian Medical Association to come forward and resolve this issue.
It may be pertinent to mention that a report was published earlier by CSIR and the Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (IGIB).
Three years back, a report was also published in ‘The Hindu’ based on the details collected from street vendors, retail merchants, general stores, hardware shops and medical halls.
Govt. of India should take action to find out the solution for this issue.
