Hyderabad: The COVID-19 lockdown broke down religious barriers after Muslims helped perform the last rites of their Hindu neighbour.
Members of the Muslim community helped in performing the last rites of their 85-year-old Hindu neighbour in BJR Nagar area of Khairtabad.
P Venkatamma was a resident of BJR Nagar locality of Khairtabad and she was a widow and living in the area alone. She was died due to ill health but her Hindu neighbours suspect it to be COVID-19 death refused to cremate her body.
This is not the first case where the Muslim community of India shows the Ganga-Jamuna tehzeeb. A similar incident happened in Nirmal where Muslims performed the last rites of their Hindu brother.
The fear of coronavirus is so strong that the people are not ready to come out and lift the bier of their loved ones. Their own community members and relatives chose to stay inside and do not want to come out to perform the last rites.
Showing the Ganga-Jamuna tehzeeb, 10-15 members of Muslim community carried the body on their shoulders to the cremation ground and cremated her body as per Hindu rites.
