New Delhi [India]: Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said on Friday that all arrangements have been made to avoid any problems at tolls, including introduction of fast track stickers.
“We have sold around six lakh fast-track stickers on toll and we would like to sell them on a much larger scale in the coming time. We have asked the bankers to make these available and we request the transporters to acquire these for their benefit,” Gadkari told media ahead of the 86th general meeting of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
He said that the authorities are making all efforts to provide cash at toll booths and have even introduced digital payment to overcome the shortage of cash.
“We are even providing the facility to pay by card we are trying everything to provide convenience to people. We have also planned don giving them coupons if problem persists. So now I think there shouldn’t be any problem at toll booths,” the Union Minister added.
Earlier, the collection at toll plazas was suspended by the ministry of road transport and highways after the government demonetised high-value notes on November 8, following issues of shortage of valid currency notes and the collection resumed December 3 midnight.
It was also announced that all toll plazas in national highways will accept old currency notes of Rs. 500 till December 15. (ANI)
