Farmer counselling centres planned

Chittor, December 26: Farmer counselling centres would be set up in the district collectorates to counsel the farmers and discourage them from resorting to suicides.

Disclosing this to mediapersons here at Kalikiri, his native mandal during his maiden visit after becoming the chief minister, N Kiran Kumar Reddy said that such counselling centres would be set up even at the divisional levels in the district where suicides by farmers have been reported.

“It is an attempt to reach out to the farmers and their families and provide moral support to them while the state government is making every effort to help them financially. Modalities on the functioning of these centres would be finalised tomorrow,” he said.

Kiran Kumar Reddy also directed the party cadre including MPs, MLAs, ZP chairmen, ZPTC, MPTC to visit the homes of the distressed farmers and ensure help by coordinating with the government. He said he had written to the Centre to permit export of 15 lakh tonnes of boiled rice, which would help the farmers in a big way.
