Farmer commits suicide in UP due to crop damage

A 58-year-old farmer allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a river at Medhava village near here following loss of crops due to recent unseasonal rains and hailstorm, an official said today.

Ram Pher Yadav jumped into Sai river in his village yesterday after the wheat he had sown was destroyed in the unseasonal rains and hailstorm last month, SDM Indrasan Verma said.

The body has been sent for post-mortem, Verma said, adding that the bereaved family is being provided financial help from Chief Minister’s relief fund.
