New Delhi [India]: A 21-year-old-woman and her friend were harassed by two police personnel today near Surajkund at Faridabad.
The woman was learning to drive with the help of her friend when the incident took place.
They were stopped by an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and constable on the road who allegedly misbehaved and abused them.
Horrified by the incident, the woman called the police helpline but no response or action was taken.
She then called the Women Helpline (181) and asked for immediate help. The Delhi Commission for Women’s (DCW) team immediately arrived came into action.
After investigation, the woman alleged that the police personnel’s hit the friend and snatched his wallet too.
She demanded the DCW counsellor that she wanted a strict legal action against the accused.
On the girl’s complaint, the DCW counselor spoke to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Sakir Hussain and Station House Officer (SHO) Pankaj Kumar and demanded strict action.
The SHO acted promptly and suspended the ASI and initiated departmental enquiry against both the ASI and the constable.
DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal stated that anyone who misbehaves with a girl or a woman will not be spared.
The chairperson encouraged girls and women to call the 181 Women helpline immediately if they felt threatened or abused in any circumstances.
Later in the day, the ASI was suspended immediately.
A departmental enquiry has been initiated against the constable who accompanied the ASI at the incident. (ANI)
