Fareed Zakaria reinstated by Time and CNN

After suspending Fareed Zakaria, the noted journalist, last week for plagiarism, Time magazine and CNN have reinstated him. In his defence, the Time has termed the ethical lapse made by Zakaria as an “unintentional error”. Fareed’s column will appear in the next issue of Time which comes out on September 7.

Meanwhile Cable news channel CNN has also decided to reinstate Zakaria after a thorough internal review of Zakaria’s work and found nothing that merited continuing the suspension. Zakaria’s public affairs program “GPS” will resume on CNN from August 26.

Time and CNN had suspended Zakaria last week, for one month, after it was found that the respected journalist had lifted portions of an article he wrote on gun control for Time, from the article by Harvard University professor of American history Jill Lepore.

However Zakaria had issued a public apology for the ethical lapse. Zakaria studied at Yale and Harvard, was managing editor of Foreign Affairs magazine, then editor of Newsweek International for 10 years before moving to CNN in 2010.
