Washington: Director John Singleton, who died on Monday, will get a private funeral ceremony in Los Angeles on May 6.
As reported by Entertainment Weekly, the funeral will be a small, private goodbye gathering including family and friends. No fans would be allowed to join the ceremony.
However, the family is planning to build a larger memorial for John in a few weeks to celebrate his life,” a family representative said.
The ‘Boyz N the Hood’ director passed away at the age of 51 as he was hospitalised after suffering a major stroke.
As per a statement from Singleton’s family, the Oscar nominee director died at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where he was on life support after suffering a stroke.
“We want to thank the amazing doctors at Cedars-Sinai Hospital for their expert care and kindness and we again want to thank all of John’s fans, friends and colleagues for all the love and support they showed to him during his difficult time,” read the statement carried by Deadline.
A two-time Academy Award nominee, Singleton is considered to be a pioneer in the history of Black cinema.
At 24, he was the youngest-ever person as well as the first African-American to be nominated for Best Director at the Oscars.
The 51-year-old’s recent projects included a show ‘Snowfall’ he co-created with the FX Network, which was renewed last year for the third season.
Many celebrities also mourned the death of the legendary director.
