Family members and relatives of a six-year-old rape victim wento on a hunger strike on Sunday here, over a demand for justice for their daughter.
A six-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered in Nagla Kalar area in Aligarh on April 18, sparking violent protests by local residents and prompting police to use force in which at least seven persons were injured.
The father of the victim said he wanted Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to look into the matter personally and punish the culprits involved .
“I want the chief minister to come here and have the accused arrested and punished,” he said.
Police confirmed after the post mortem that the victim was strangled to death after being raped.
The mother of the raped and murdered victim called for the toughest punishment.
“The accused should be arrested. The way my daughter was tortured to death, the accused should also be punished the same way. We demand that the chief minister comes here because we want that the toughest punishment be given to him,” she said.
India has witnessed an upsurge in crimes against women of late. The authorities are struggling to combat the rising crimes against women, including domestic violence, molestation, trafficking and rape.
India has robust gender laws, but they are hardly enforced. (ANI)
