London, October 06: The latest remake of dance school musical Fame has stayed top of the British box office for a second week, denying comedian Ricky Gervais the No. 1 spot.
The 1980 story of students at the former New York City High School of Performing Arts took 1.78 million pounds, according to Screen International today.
Gervais, as the man who will do anything other than lie to win the woman of his dreams in The Invention of Lying, managed only 1.73 million pounds on its opening weekend.
The 3D version of Toy Story came in at three, pushing animated children’s movie Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs down one spot to four.
Surrogates slipped two places to five with Bruce Willis in a future world where humans have a synthetic counterpart to live out their lives for them.
Another sci-fi thriller, South African-based District 9, was down two at six.
