Fake vehicle registration racket busted; 5 held

Hyderabad, January 05: A gang involved in preparing fake registration certificates for stolen vehicles was nabbed by city police on Tuesday. The fraud was allegedly executed in collusion with few contract employees of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA).

Deputy commissioner of police (South Zone) N Madhusudhan Reddy said in a press release that Mohd Feroz Pasha, M Prasad, G Laxman, N Papa Rao, G Kishore were arrested for being involved in creating fake documents for stolen vehicles by altering the Transport department’s database and later selling the vehicles to gullible persons.

The issue came to light when one Srinivas bought a 2007 Chevrolet Optra model with Andhra Pradesh registration from one Prasad, suspected that the latter had cheated him by selling a vehicle with fake documents.

Based on the complaint given by Srinivas, Madannapet police found that Prasad had sold a stolen vehicle. Prasad, who hails from Madannapet but was residing at Bangalore, purchased a Chevrolet of Karnataka registration and a Scorpio of Maharashtra registration, at cheaper rates from one Amzad and Feroz. According to police, both were stolen vehicles and missing cases had been registered at Pune and Karnataka. “Both vehicles were brought here and fake documents prepared with the help of Laxman, Phani alias Nimmagadda Papa Rao and Kishore,’’ police said. Laxman is an RTA agent whereas Phani and Kishore work on contract basis in operating the Transport department database.
