Fake IAS Officer apprehended by nampally police

The Nampally Police have apprehended one person Neeraj Kumar Chaturvedi (29) an Un-employed R/o. Gomiya, Bokaro District, Jharkand State who is posing himself as an IAS officer working as Joint Commissioner, Central vigilance Commission, West Central Region and cheated several people and Seized fake ID card, visiting cards and several debit and credit cards of various banks.

The accused has completed his Bachelor Degree in B.Com Accounts (Hons) from Jamshedpur Cooperative college in the year 2005. He also pursued his Executive MBA from XLRI Jamshedpur, Tata Nagar, Jharkhand. Initially he worked as Facility Manager in Tata steels, Jhamshedpur for three years i.e; up to early 2008. After that he joined in Aditya Birla group, Mumbai as Facility Manager and worked up to 2010. Due to health problems he left his job and since then he was jobless. In the year 2012, he shifted to Pune and got habituated to lavish lifestyle. As he had no source of income he hatched a plan to act as an Indian Administrative officer (IAS) to earn money in easy manner. For this he prepared a fake ID card and visiting cards and lived in luxurious hotels. To create confidence he travelled in flights and A/C Two Tier Trains. He moved with elite circle and developed relationship with them by introducing himself as an IAS officer working as Joint Commissioner, Central Vigilence Commission, West Central Region. He made them believe him as an IAS officer, by sorting out their problems by means of making phone calls and giving reference letters on fake letter heads to the concerned. By doing such small favours, he extorted huge amounts from people. Likewise he made friendship with one Rohit Damani of Pune, who is the CEO of HORTUS, a Software firm and did small favours to him and collected money of more than Rs.10 lakhs from him. He is also making Rohit to pay monthly rent of Rs.40,000 for his room in Ritz Hotel, Sadhuvaswani Road, Pune City where the accused is staying for the past one year.

On June 30, the accused came to Income Tax Office, AC Guards with Rohit Damani and Pradeep, M.D of HORTUS to sort out the pending case of HORTUS Consultants and made Rohit and Pradeep sit in the lobby and went alone into the room of Srinivas, Commissioner of Income Tax (Appeals) introduced himself as Neeraj Kumar Chaturvedi, IAS officer working as Joint Commissioner, Central Vigilance Commission, West Central Region by showing his fake ID Card and visiting cards and pressurized the Commissioner of Income Tax to complete the work. He also introduced himself as the son of senior IAS officer belonging to West Bengal cadre and tried to influence the officer. He also claimed that he is joining PMO to investigate/ assist scams of 2G and Common wealth.

The Commissioner of Income Tax got suspicious and questioned the details of his batch mates and other details of his office, which the accused could not reply satisfactorily. The matter was informed to Nampally police and he was apprehended and on through questioning, it was disclosed that he was a fraudster and impersonated as IAS officer. It was also revealed that he had cheated several people by posing himself as IAS officer.

A case has been registered Under sections 448,353 and 419 IPC was registered at PS Nampally and taken up for investigation. The accused is produced before the Court and remanded to judicial custody. Investigation is in progress to identify the victims of the fraudster and to take further necessary legal action. (INN)
