Manipur unit of BJP has sought the resignation of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh over alleged encounter killings in the state under his tenure.
The chief of BJP’s Manipur unit, Th Chaoba Singh, referred to the claims in this regard by a head constable of Manipur police as he demanded that the chief minister quit his post.
Addressing the press yesterday at the BJP office here, Th Chaoba said Chungkham Sanjit Meitei was killed in a fake encounter as per the disclosure by head constable Thounaojam Herojit. The incident also involved the killing of a young housewife in what police have claimed was a shootout.
Herojit has stated that upon an order from his superior officer, he shot at and killed Meitei on July 23, 2009, with a 9mm pistol that was officially issued to him, Th Chaoba said.
Claiming Herojit had disclosed this in a statement to the press on January 29 at Manipur Press Club, Th Chaoba said that the matter was “serious”.
The BJP leader slammed the Ibobi Singh government for alleged fake encounter killings in Manipur between 2002 and 2012.
