Fake currency racket busted

Ahmedabad, August 02: The Gujarat police have arrested four persons and claim to have busted a major racket involved in pushing fake currency notes into the country through the Nepal border.

The police said fake currency notes worth over Rs. 10.75 lakhs were recovered from the possession of the four persons arrested from a highway near Godhra town in the Panchamahals district. The seized fake notes were in Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 denominations.

The police said the arrested, two of them from Godhra and the other two hailing from Rajkot, had told the police that they were part of a major international racket involved in pushing large quantity of fake currency notes to destabilize the country’s economy.

Bomb hoax

Meanwhile, the Surat police arrested two youths from the city’s Salabatpura locality for harassing the police with hoax bomb calls. The police said during the last six months or so, the two youths had made innumerable calls to the police stations “informing” the police about planting of bombs and all of these turned out to be hoax calls.

The police said one of the boys said he was working in the Surat textile market and found an easy way in securing extra holidays by making such hoax calls which resulted in the closure of the markets.

The other boy told the police that he helped his accomplice only for fun.
