Fake cops held for Rs 60 lakh con job

Hyderabad, May 12: Three persons, who collected more than Rs 60 lakh from a trio on the pretext of removing the history-sheets against them with the help of their influence and closeness to senior police officials, were on Wednesday arrested by the Cyberabad police. An amount of Rs 15.4 lakh was recovered from them.

One of the accused had even made several calls, with the help of voice changer software, to the victims as senior IPS officers including the Director-General of Police K Aravinda Rao, police said.

According to police, the main accused, M Srikanth alias Raju, approached Shankar Goud and his two sons who have history-sheets against them in Raidurg police station. “Srikanth took Rs 61.3 lakh in the name of senior police officials,’’ Cyberabad police commissioner Dwaraka Tirumala Rao told reporters. The accused used to call from various mobile numbers in the name of senior police officers.

Goud, who grew suspicious, approached the Raidurg police who caught Srikanth and two others who helped him in the offence.

Srikanth’s father, 70-year-old Padma Rao, a retired law officer in the AP Housing Board, D Shiva Kumar Goud (62) and another M S Satyanarayana (73) were involved in the offence. Padma Rao and Satyanarayana are brothers. Satyanarayana is absconding.

“Padma Rao earlier worked as a peace committee member of West Zone of Hyderabad police,’’ the CP said.
