Hyderabad, July 13: Task Force sleuths on Sunday arrested three members of a gang, involved in issuing fake certificates of different universities, at Saidabad.

B Maheshwar Reddy (32), G Diwakar Reddy(40) and B Sridhar Reddy( 33) were arrested by police who recovered the fake certificates from them. Police said the accused had been making dubious certificates of Board of Intermediate, ITI, Polytechnic and BTech certificates of Osmania University and Nagarjuna University.

According to the police, the fake certificates were very similar to the original certificates. “The certificates also have monograms just like the original ones,” said a Task Force official.

The accused had been running their operations from a rented flat at Kukatpally. As part of the modus operandi, the miscreants would first download the proforma of genuine certificates of different courses. Depending on the requirement of the people, they would fill the marks sheet and paste the monogram on the certificate. Police recovered nearly 30 fake certificates during the investigation. The gang has been running the racket since two years.

Police said the accused sold the certificate for a price ranging between Rs 10,000 and Rs 50,000 per person depending on the urgency.

Police said Maheshwar Reddy was arrested in 2006 for committing a similar fraud.

Kurumurthy, a software engineer, who assisted the gang is absconding.

All the three arrested persons hail from Mahaboobnagar district but they had been temporarily residing at Amberpet. Police recovered a computer, printer and rubber stamp from them. The accused were originally involved in real estate business but with a slump in market, they resorted to making easy money by issuing fake certificates.
