NEW DELHI: Delhi BJP leader Nupur Sharma who tried to fan the fire with “fake” images was booked under non-bailable sections.
According to India Today, the Kolkata police filed two separate complaints against the ruling party’s Delhi unit spokesperson for passing off 2002 Gujarat riot photos as those from violence-hit Basirhat in West Bengal.
She has been booked under IPC sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion), 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion), 471(forgery), 505 and 465.
The BJP leader had tweeted a photo shot during the 2002 Gujarat riots as one depicting the ongoing unrest in West Bengal. She had even used the #SaveBengal” and #SaveHindus, to give the post a communal tone.

The Twitterati, were quick to pointed out to her that the image was from 2002 Gujarat riots and accused her of spreading a rumour.
“Requesting @WBPolice to take my tweet as a Complaint against @NupurSharmaBJP for her fake and provocative posts and
Arrest her immediately,” said a Twitter user.
“Can’t trust any BJP handle these days. Films, old riots all is being passed off as Bengal,” said another.
